Season Overview

Although the Mountain Bike race season runs from February through May, the team commitment starts in Winter. We begin with spin and strengthening classes after school, as well as Saturday or after school team rides. We typically meet 3 days a week and riders are expected to participate in all classes and events. During the race season, we race once or twice a month at locations all over Northern California. Most race weekends consist of a one-night overnight at a hotel or camping, a race course pre-ride, team dinner and a race day. The team is open to everyone grades 9-12. Races are categorized by the league by grade and gender.

How well do I need to ride?

The Mountain Bike Team exists to promote a love of the sport and build Mountain Biking skills. We are open for all students with basic to advanced mountain biking experience in hopes that we can grow them all into riders with a passion for the sport and successful racing skills.

Applicants should know how to ride a bike, and have some experience with shifting gears and riding on dirt. Beyond that, we just ask that you commit to the team and show up to practices and events.

How do I join?

Recruiting begins as early as middle school and continues through Back to School Night, Club Rush, Athletic Night presentations and the first team meeting. New riders and their parents can contact us to be added to our email list and we will reach out with season info as it becomes available. We hope students will be fully committed to Bike Dawgs beginning in November. Information about how to sign up can be found on our Sign Up page. Those who join will be invited to a Season Kick Off Party that includes parents, student riders, coaches and other volunteers. There, riders can meet the team, ask questions, and turn in any outstanding paperwork and team dues. To join a mailing list ahead of time and receive the invitation, contact us at bikedawgsmanager@gmail.com.

Parent Participation

All training is off school grounds. Riders and their bikes need to be able to get to practices. This usually involves some parent commitment and carpooling, especially before the kids can drive themselves.

On race weekends we are “All Hands On Deck” with  many volunteer opportunities for parents, friends and even siblings. Parent participation is expected and necessary!

Financial Commitment

Mountain Biking is considered a Club Sport, not generally sponsored by the school. While riders are typically fully funded by their parents and team fundraising, there are scholarships available at both the team and league level. Email us at bikedawgsmanager@gmail.com with any questions.
